Get a polar bear, I have one. It's the best one after Rainbow Pheonix.

Unless you're a primary or secondary Paragon or are rolling with one.

don't have much to add other than Strider FTW

If there were a pet stable or some way to not give up a pet, then I'd get a White Moa on my ranger.

Any pet will do (PvE) - even a bear. The change in attack speed is not worth worrying about. Take whatever pet suits you. Nothing in the game (except for some HM/elite stuff) is that critical that the type of pet will make a real difference.

Too true, it's really annoying if you keep having to walk around that monstrosity. Even if it doesn't do much damage, it's still a valuable pet.

My personal favorite is a White Moa

That's what it says on the official wiki page. Black bears use a monster skill (Bestial Mauling) which deals no extra damage but has a casting time that slows their overall rate of attack.

Don't use black bears...

Edit: Doh, Luminarus beat me to it.
I like hiding behind my big fat bear... they body block well :P
